Transfer News: Juventus eyeing to prioritize the signature of Chelsea star Jorginho
According to @cmdotcom via Sport Witness on Twitter as relayed by Absolute Chelsea (h/t Football.London), Italian giants Juventus are planning to sign Chelsea star Jorginho ‘as soon as’ possible amid the Italian’s intention to find a new home.
Jorginho had a dream year last season, winning the UEFA Champions League with the Blues and lifting the UEFA Euros with Italy. Having been in the conversation to win the Ballon d’Or not long ago, his performances have arguably been on the decline this season.
Regardless of that, he continues to be a vital cog in Tuchel’s machine, even wearing the captain’s armband when Cesar Azpilicueta isn’t on the pitch. His passing range and the ability to read the game are second to none in our team.
The Italian midfielder was brought on late by Thomas Tuchel in the loss against Real Madrid but still had a nice little impact from the bench, playing some sleek passes into the final third. Nevertheless, it did not prove to be enough on the night.
What next for Jorginho?
Even though everything is going well for Jorginho at the club, it seems his interest lies elsewhere. After not showing any interest in extending his stay, it is now believed that Jorginho doesn’t want to renew his contract.
Italian giants Juventus have been interested in the Chelsea midfielder and have now decided to make aggressive moves with regard to a future move. Considering Jorginho’s current transfer stance, the Old Lady are eyeing completing a transfer for him as a priority for the club.
Before Chelsea, Jorginho spent a significant amount of time in the Serie A playing with Napoli. The Italian midfielder may well want to return to familiar surroundings given he has now entered his 30s and would soon approach the twilight of his playing career.
Even though letting a quality player like Jorginho leave is a significant loss for our club, holding a player against his will might not serve us well in the long run. Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are two young midfielders out on loan who can take that space, but it remains to be seen if Tuchel trusts them to make them regular starters already.
Juve are one of the top teams in Europe and are constantly contending for the Serie A title while being a regular fixture in the UCL group stages every season. It is not hard to see why a player may be enticed by a club such as that.
Keeping Jorginho would be a good move by the club considering he would be an experienced head in the dressing room and of course, continues to be a fine deep-lying playmaker. But even if he leaves, it won’t be the end of the world for us.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this in the summer. Currently, the Blues’ priority would be bringing in new owners so they can get rid of the government-enforced sanctions on the club. Once that happens, the day-to-day functioning of the club with regards to transfer dealings can hopefully go back to normal.
