According to The Express, Chelsea star Timo Werner has been ‘floated’ to Juventus and AC Milan by his agent Volker Struth ahead of the summer transfer window. The striker has failed to live up to the expectations since his move from RB Leipzig.
The Blues parted ways with £47.5million in transfer fees to secure Werner’s signature two years ago. He has been disappointing in front of the goal since then, although he has shown flashes of brilliance every now and then. Hence, the Blues are said to entertain bids worth around 50 per cent of the amount they had paid for him.
Struth has sounded out Juve and Milan regarding a potential move to keep their options open this summer. The German international would prefer a move back to the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund being touted as a potential destination. Atalanta have also been contacted by his agent over a possible transfer after this season.
Going by what is written above, it seems that the 26-year-old is nearing the end of his playing career at Stamford Bridge. It is unfortunate how everything has turned out for him so far, considering how big things were expected of him following his impressive spell in Germany.
The Premier League attacker also raised doubts over his future in West London after he revealed that he feels more comfortable when playing in the system of the national team. Perhaps all these reasons could finally culminate in his departure at the end of the current campaign.
However, the UK Government would pose issues for Thomas Tuchel’s side, considering how they are not allowed to engage in transfer business due to the sanctions. Despite these restrictions, there is a belief within the club that the current situation will return to normal soon before the summer transfer window opens.
It remains to be seen if there will be further updates on the outcome of the meetings that were held with the three Italian clubs. It would be sad for most fans to see the back of Werner considering how we all wanted him to flourish in our Blue shirt.
But it seems that an exit would be in the best interests of all the parties, especially after Kai Havertz’s rise in form in attack. We can free up £270,000-a-week in wages from our books if Werner leaves after this term.
However, the club would then only have Romelu Lukaku as a natural, recognized out-and-out striker. This would considerably impact our depth up front especially considering how we let Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud leave last summer. Such factors must also be kept in mind by the club if they really do ever want to part ways with the German hitman.
