Transfer News: Robert Lewandowski’s preferred destination comes to light amid Chelsea links

Javier Tebas claims Barcelona will not be able to sign Robert Lewandowski.

Transfer News: Chelsea target Robert Lewandowski wants to move to La Liga

According to Sport (h/t Football.London), Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski wants to play football in Spain despite Chelsea’s interest.

The Polish superstar has been sensational for the Bavarian giants yet again this season scoring an unbelievable 45 goals in 38 matches in all competitions. The 33-year-old has been one of the best players in the world in the past few years and it comes as no surprise anymore to see him put up such astonishing numbers.

The prolific striker’s contract at Munich expires in 2023 and his future at the club has been up in the air due to that reason, given he will enter into the last year of his deal next season. There is a possibility that he could leave the Allianz Arena in the summer and if that is the case, then Chelsea could pounce upon the opportunity.

However, a move to Stamford Bridge might not be possible considering the fact that the Polish legend wants a move to Spain to play in the La Liga- the league where Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi truly conquered the footballing world.

A good option but…

Robert Lewandowski has world-class numbers and there are no two ways about it. He has taken his game to new heights with each passing year and has a ridiculous scoring record. According to transfermarkt, he has 504 career goals in 668 games.

It’s no secret that Chelsea have struggled in the absence of a prolific No.9 and have had to rely on goals from midfielders and defenders. Timo Werner has struggled for goals ever since he came to Stamford Bridge whilst Romelu Lukaku’s form keeps blowing hot and cold.

Lewa might not be the youngster striker around and despite him turning 34 in August this year, he has not shown any strong signs of age catching up to him. If the player is good, then age is just a number.

We saw that with Thiago Silva when he came in from PSG. The Brazilian was clearly in the twilight of his playing career but has absolutely smashed it for us in the Premier League- leading our team to a UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup title.

It remains to be seen as to what happens with Lewandowski but it’s certainly an interesting story to keep an eye out for. A player of his calibre in the PL would surely grab everyone’s attention but he could well move to Spain instead– and thus, if we have plans to sign a striker, then it may be wise to have some backup options ready.
