Transfer News: Chelsea in pole position to sign AS Monaco star and PSG target Aurelien Tchouameni
According to Spanish newspaper Sport [Print Edition] via Sport Witness (h/t The Sun), Chelsea are in pole position to secure the signature of PSG target Aurelien Tchouameni ahead of the summer transfer window. He has certainly made a name for himself during his stint with AS Monaco in recent months.
As a rising superstar, Tchouameni has been courted by several top European clubs as a result of his consistent performances in the centre of the pitch. Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are keeping tabs on him alongside the Blues. However, the West Londoners are apparently the favourites to secure his services at this point.
It is claimed that the Frenchman is currently valued in the region of £50million right now. That arguably seems to be a fairly reasonable price for a man of his talent and potential. Considering we have dished out way higher transfer fees to land players such as Romelu Lukaku and Kepa Arrizabalaga, Tchouameni is a player worth taking a risk on.
Must take advantage!
The 22-year-old is one of the best midfield prospects in world football right now, and bringing him to Stamford Bridge would be a major statement from our side. As such, the West Londoners must use this lead to their best and prise him away before the competition does in the future.
A player like the Ligue 1 ace could potentially become a necessity in our midfield in the months to come. That is because Jorginho has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus, with his agent also confirming their interest. Hence we must safeguard our interests by looking at suitable targets as a safety net in the event that we lose our prized Italian asset.
Even if Jorginho stays, he and N’Golo Kante have entered their 30s and would need to be replaced sometime in the future moving forward. The Frenchman, meanwhile, has struggled to perform at his best throughout this year, which was the same recently in our 3-1 loss to Real Madrid.
Injuries have also been a part of Kante’s career over the last two years or so, which means that we must prepare for a worst-case scenario. That, coupled with Saul Niguez’s potential return to parent club Atletico Madrid in the summer can lead us short of options in midfield.
Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have done just okay as emergency options, but their ability to be first-team regulars here is still very much in doubt. Conor Gallagher is a shining light in that regard but signing a player like Tchouameni would surely future-proof our midfield for years to come.

Hence, it is good to know that Thomas Tuchel’s side is desperate to sign Tchouameni, having monitored his progress for months now. However, we would need to lift the sanctions that have been imposed on the club by the UK Government.
At the same time, our transfer business would also depend on the new prospective owners and the route they want to go down in the future. Let’s hope that they would realise the potential issues that could unravel up ahead and take appropriate measures to protect our interests.
