Transfer News: Chelsea keeping tabs on Leicester City star Wesley Fofana
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are currently keeping tabs to secure the services of Leicester City star Wesley Fofana for a potential transfer in the future. He has returned to action in the past few weeks after being on the sidelines for a major portion of this campaign with an injury.
Fofana has been an instant hit at Leicester, having impressed since joining them from Saint Etienne back in 2020. His presence played a crucial part in his side enjoying a successful season last term as they won the FA Cup at the cost of the Blues. However, he suffered an unfortunate injury during pre-season, which has played a role in his side’s struggles since then.
The West London side are keeping the Frenchman on their radar despite the major injury he picked up last summer. What’s more, the contract extension that he signed last month, which will keep him with the Foxes until 2027, has not stopped Thomas Tuchel’s side from expressing their interest in any case.
Is Fofana an achievable target?
The 21-year-old has already played six matches for his side after returning from a long term injury. That shows how highly Brendan Rodgers values his services to his team. The central defender has garnered a goal and two clean sheets during this short period indicating the amount of influence he possesses at such a young age.
It is understandable why we are tracking the Premier League ace despite the obstacles that lie in our pathway. After all, we are in line to be subjected to a crisis in our backline this summer. However, Fofana may not be ideal as one could say that the latest contract renewal indicates how Rodgers’ side and the defender are keen to stay with each other moving forward.
Moreover, a potential move would undoubtedly be expensive due to the Leicester centre-back’s contract situation. The central defender playing for a PL side does not help our case either. It’s best if we turn our attention toward other targets who are more feasible to acquire after this season.
Jules Kounde of Sevilla is one such case, and we have already declared him our top target for this summer. However, we will need to take care of the sanctions imposed by the UK Government on the club. After all, that has played a part in our inability to make a case with two of our soon-to-be out-of-contract stars.

Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are nearing the end of their respective deals, and they are set to depart at the end of this term. Perhaps, Cesar Azpilicueta could be included in the same boat, although his future prospects are still unclear for now.
Fofana would have been a great choice to help us compensate for these departures, but the obstacles make his transfer unlikely to take place. That being said, nothing is certain just yet, so let’s wait and see how this situation will pan out in the coming months.
