Transfer News: Chelsea target with £68m release clause tells club he wants summer exit

Transfer News: Chelsea target Jules Kounde wants to leave Sevilla this summer

According to Daily Mail Online, Chelsea target Jules Kounde has conveyed that he still intends to leave Sevilla in this summer transfer window. This update would undoubtedly give the English club a much-needed boost, considering how they are set to lose Antonio Rudiger after this season.

The Blues have been a long term admirer of Kounde, and a potential transfer to Stamford Bridge had collapsed last summer. The La Liga side remained adamant that the £68million release clause must be paid for the move to be facilitated. That eventually led to the deal failing to materialise, but that has not stopped the English club.

Thomas Tuchel’s side has always remained keen on signing the Frenchman despite their setback the previous summer. They will ramp up the pressure for a potential transfer once the new owners are in control. That being said, the centre-back’s latest stance would certainly help their case as it opens the way for a possible move.

Chelsea have maintained their interest to sign Jules Kounde.

Chelsea must sign Kounde!

Since Rudiger is expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, we have been handed more reasons to complete a move for Kounde. Replacing the former would be a stern challenge indeed and probably be expensive, considering how we would need a world-class reinforcement.

Kounde can be that man looking at how he has performed for the Spanish club over the years. What’s even more impressive is how he was able to have a solid season despite the failed move last summer. After all, he was frustrated with the transfer not getting finalised, which would probably have affected his mindset.

That could explain why the 23-year-old has not been at his best consistent self since the summer saga. Despite that, he has been decent for the La Liga side, indicating his strong mind when it comes to dealing with adversity. With him still being keen on leaving his current club, we must take advantage and put this long-standing matter to bed once and for all.

With Andreas Christensen also being set to join Barcelona after this term, we are put into a dire situation ahead of the next campaign. Cesar Azpilicueta could follow Christensen to Camp Nou, adding to our defensive worries for this summer.

That’s not all, as Thiago Silva is in the latter stages of his playing career, while Malang Sarr’s recent performances show why he is not ready to consistently start for us. Trevoh Chalobah has enjoyed a breakthrough season, although he would not be enough on his own to solve this crisis in the future.

Kounde can negate this potential problem to an extent which means that the West London side would be smart to do their best to get this deal in the bag. Whether that will happen, though, remains to be seen. All we can hope as fans is the club goes into the new season with at least 5 top quality centre-backs, given Tuchel uses a three-man backline.
