Transfer News: Chelsea face competition from Barcelona for Borna Sosa
According to Football London, Chelsea face competition from Barcelona for Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa with Arsenal and Tottenham also said to be interested in the talented Croatian.
Sosa has been impressive for a struggling Stuttgart side this season putting up decent numbers in the Bundesliga. The Croatian has been with the German club since 2018 and has established himself as a very promising defender in European football.
The 24-year-old has played 25 times for the Bundesliga side this season scoring two goals and setting up eight across all competitions. Also capable of playing in the left of midfield in a more advanced role, the young Croatian is versatile and offers a lot going forward.
In the aftermath of Ben Chilwell’s long-term season derailing injury, Chelsea have been linked heavily to the Stuttgart defender. Barcelona will now stand in our way of landing the player.
The Spanish giants are on the hunt for a left-back to bolster their options in that area and Sosa is the latest addition to the list. With Barcelona joining the race for the talented defender, Chelsea will have to act quickly if they are keen on getting the player.
A solid option?
Injuries have plagued Chelsea in the full-back regions with both Ben Chilwell and Reece James struggling with long term injuries. Whilst James has returned, Chilwell has been ruled for the entire season.
Marcos Alonso has been decent for the Blues at best but the Spaniard is not getting any younger. His contract expires in 2023 and there is every chance that he could be on the move when his contract ends.
Whilst Chilwell is expected to return and will reclaim his spot in the team, Sosa will provide a good option for the Blues both as a rotation and eventually a starter.
However, Chelsea will not have it easy with Barcelona’s supposed interest and with Arsenal and Tottenham also interested in the player.
