Transfer News: Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur interested in Derby County prospect Jack Thompson
According to The Sun, Chelsea are among the Premier League clubs interested in signing Derby County youth star Jack Thompson, with Manchester City and Tottenham also supposedly linked with the 15-year-old.
The English goalkeeper is widely regarded as one of the best for his age and could be set to bring Derby County sizeable money as he continues to attract interest from the Premier League giants. Whilst Chelsea are unable to act upon their interest due to the current situations they find themselves in, City and Spurs are said to be very keen on Thompson.
Derby find themselves in a huge pickle as they struggle to get out of administration and a sizeable transfer fee for their 15-year-old star would go a long way in helping them financially.
The Rams still await a new owner and if they continue at the same rate, Wayne Rooney might not have a big squad to pick from next season. Selling Thompson could turn out to be a necessity for Derby considering the fact that he is someone who can attract bidders.
The English youth international is still very young but is talked about very highly and the Premier League giants may want to take him under their wings and make him continue their development. The interested parties would be aware of the situation down at the Pride Park Stadium and would know what advantage it can hand them in landing the youngster.
Falling behind in the race?
Due to the ownership issues surrounding the Blues, Chelsea are unable to act upon their interest in any players, especially considering the fact that they are still operating under a special license.
This has seen Tottenham and Manchester City leapfrog the London club in the race for Jack Thompson and if either club manages to reach an agreement with the 15-year-old before Chelsea resolve their situation, it could mean the Blues missing out on a talented teenager.
At 15, Thompson has just started his journey to be a senior player one day at a top club. He would have to join the Cobham ranks and progress up level by level if he joins us. It will be a few more years before the English youth international enters the first team picture.
However the fact that City, Spurs and Chelsea are interested in him says something about Thompson’s potential. He will possibly have to develop a few years in the academy and maybe a few loan moves later, there is a chance that he could come into the first team picture- this is, of course, if we do manage to get our hands on him.

It’s far too early to call Thompson’s career and it remains to be seen if he ever reaches his potential but what is very clear is the fact that right now, the English youth star is very highly rated and may not remain at Derby County for long. Edouard Mendy is a top goalkeeper but has now turned 30 and is on a contract that expires in 2025.
