Transfer News: Barcelona considering a move for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount
According to foreign outlet Foot Mercato (h/t Football London), Spanish behemoths Barcelona might be considering a move for Chelsea’s highly-rated talent Mason Mount.
The English midfielder has been exceptional for the Blues for the past few seasons and is the heartbeat of a well functioning Chelsea team. He has consistently remained as one of our more important attackers and that trend has continued this season as well.
The Cobham graduate has scored 8 goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions this season. The 23-year-old has been in the Blues’ ranks since 2005 and has progressed through every youth level before establishing himself at the club as a first-team player.
Highly versatile, the English talent can play in an advanced midfield position, as well as on both wings and even as a false nine. He has proven to be a key player for Thomas Tuchel ever since the German came to Stamford Bridge last season.
Barcelona are said to be interested in signing the English midfielder and it comes as no surprise considering the immense quality the 23-year-old possesses. Already an England international, Mount’s ceiling is very high and he still has a lot of time on his hands.
Prized possession?
Irrespective of the money it could get us, we must not consider parting with arguably our most talented Cobham graduate in recent years- not to Barcelona or anyone.
Mount is undeniably one of our best forward players and it would be a disaster to let him leave. Often, he is central to whatever good our team does and controls the game in a way that often keeps the opposition defences on the backfoot.
His ability to chip in with goals and assists on a regular basis is an added advantage and there seems to be no facet of play that the 23-year-old doesn’t have an influence on when the team is in possession.
His leadership traits have also come to the fore many times and he has even captained us on the odd occasion. Players like Mount don’t come around too often. Barcelona are a huge club and it is true that they have a pulling power when it comes to transfers.

However, the fact that Mount is a Chelsea academy graduate could make fans believe that perhaps a move for him away from the Bridge wouldn’t be very easy. It is not like he does not get regular game time. If Mount is happy and wants to stay, we have to ensure that it happens at all costs.
