A View From The Bridge

“Biggest chance” – Tuchel makes honest admission ahead of Real Madrid UCL clash

Thomas Tuchel gives his verdict ahead of the Real Madrid vs Chelsea UCL second-leg quarter-final clash

Speaking to reporters in the pre-match presser as quoted by Marca, Thomas Tuchel reiterated that Real Madrid have the upper hand vs Chelsea in the second leg of their upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final fixture. The German manager didn’t mince his words while stating that the Blues will play to the best of their abilities.

The 48-year-old manager would have been left fuming with his players at Stamford Bridge where Los Blancos ran riot in the first leg of their latest Champions League match-up. The West Londoners succumbed to an excruciating 1-3 defeat and have an uphill task if they are to qualify for the next round of the Champions League.

Chelsea seemed to be in a bit of a slump as they recorded an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Brentford before losing to the club from Madrid. That being said, their latest rout against Southampton could do a world of good to boost their morale after suffering humiliating defeats prior to that.

Thomas Tuchel states that Chelsea has a slim chance against Real Madrid in their upcoming Uefa Champions League fixture.

Conversing with the media as quoted by Marca, Thomas Tuchel highlighted that his club’s chances of causing an upset against the 13-time UCL winners were pretty slim. Despite that, the Blues would give everything on the pitch.

“What chance do we have? Not the biggest chance. But we never manage our effort and belief by the chances we have for a result. Trying means that we will play to the full limit. We will try to be in better shape and better condition than in the first match.

Is the UCL dream over?

Chelsea have had a roller coaster of a season, to say the least. The London-based club managed to bag their first-ever FIFA Club World Cup in February this year. Tuchel’s men were on a roll and narrowly missed out on the EFL Cup to Liverpool towards the end of February.

Many would have thought that this momentum would go for a toss after sanctions were imposed on the club. The West Londoners largely managed to put that behind them, churning out one good result after another but hit a rough patch just after the international break as they succumbed to back-to-back defeats to the Bees as well as Los Blancos.

Their latest win against the Saints would have given the squad some form of respite, but one could agree that there is a world of difference between the Spanish giants and Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men at the moment. Chelsea would arguably have to pull off one of their most clinical performances of the season against Real Madrid.

The former Borussia Dortmund manager also highlighted that the players will have to put in much better performances than their first leg at Stamford Bridge. Many of the supporters in our fanbase would be echoing the same sentiments as we gear up to face the La Liga club at Santiago Bernabeu.

Chelsea have pulled off some stellar comebacks in the history of this competition. That being said, beating Real Madrid by two goals or more at their home ground is easier said than done. Whilst that may be true, there is no reason why we can’t make it an exciting affair should we manage to notch a goal in the early stages of the game.
