A View From The Bridge

Thomas Tuchel claims he is ‘still not involved’ in Chelsea’s talks to find a new owner

Speaking to the media before the FA Cup clash against Crystal Palace as quoted by Daily Mail, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel asked for speed and clarity regarding the ownership situation at the club.

The German manager has been a resolute figure at Stamford Bridge despite all the off-field troubles. The club are currently facing sanctions that can only be done away with once we get new owners. These sanctions prevent the Blues from making any new deals or signing new contracts for staff members and players at the moment.

All this uncertainty would definitely be unerring to a point. The good news is that our new owners could be confirmed by the end of this month. The Ricketts family has withdrawn their bid which now makes it a three-way battle between consortiums led by Steve Pagliuca, Todd Boehly, and Sir Martin Broughton.

In his pre-match presser for the Chelsea vs Crystal Palace FA Cup clash as quoted by Daily Mail, Thomas Tuchel was hopeful that things can be sorted out as soon as possible with Chelsea regarding new ownership.

‘No, to be very honest, no. It’s still a process and I heard that talks are still ongoing with the government and I’m still not involved which I’m glad about I have to say as we have a lot to focus on here and that’s where our focus goes to. We hope things will be sorted out as soon as possible to have clarity but I can understand that it’s not that easy.’

Tuchel wants clarity

Could you really blame the former Borussia Dortmund manager in such a situation? Most people in his place would want some kind of transparency or clarity regarding the situation at hand. That being said, despite a few hiccups, the 48-year-old manager has done a great job of steering the ship at Stamford Bridge.

The West Londoners exited the UEFA Champions League midweek despite a valiant 2-3 victory at Santiago Bernabeu on the night. A great deal of damage was already done in the first leg of the tie when Los Blancos thrashed the Blues by a 1-3 scoreline.

The FIFA Club World Cup champions will have very little time to recover from that setback as we take on London rivals Crystal Palace on Sunday. After losing in the EFL Cup final this season coupled with our off-field issues after Roman Abramovich’s decision to sell the club, a major trophy could definitely help boost some morale in our dressing room.

At the moment, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ben Chilwell are the only absentees for the match against the Eagles with Romelu Lukaku returning to training. It would definitely be a great relief to have confirmation of our new owners sooner rather than later.

This would not only give us a sense of assurance but also help us function like a normal club that can go on to make deals and offer new contracts to existing players. That being said, we hope that our new owners can help us carry forward our rich tradition and take us to even greater heights in Europe as well as England.
