Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva puts out a defiant message after Real Madrid loss
Taking to Twitter after Real Madrid’s loss to Chelsea as quoted by Football London, Thiago Silva has sent out a defiant message that the Blues will not give up, despite trailing the Spanish side 1-3 from the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Chelsea suffered a humbling in the hands of Real Madrid who emerged victorious three goals to one thanks to a hattrick from Karim Benzema. Kai Havertz scored the solitary goal for the Blues. A mammoth task now awaits them at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Despite the loss, the Blues still have a chance to progress to the semi-finals but the task remains a mammoth one. The Spaniards have done well this season and beating them by two or more goals is not a cakewalk.
After the game against the Spanish giants, centre-back and second-choice captain, Thiago Silva put out a tweet declaring that the Blues will fight to get a result in the second leg. While it is easy to make such statements, it remains to be seen if the Blues can walk the talk.
A true leader?
Chelsea have a few leaders in their squad and Thiago Silva is probably one of the biggest ones of them all. The 37-year-old is still going strong and has been exceptional for the Blues this season.
A true leader on the field and off it, the Brazilian legend is a calming yet authoritative presence on the field. Despite his age, the defender has appeared 37 times for the Blues this season, even scoring three goals and assisting two more during this period.
The Brazilian played the full 90 minutes against Real Madrid and is likely to do the same again during the second leg. He will be hoping to inspire his teammates to do the unthinkable in the Spanish capital and secure a place in the semifinal.
Signing Thiago Silva from PSG has undeniably been a huge coup for the Blues. The 37-year-old has been tremendous for the Blues and shows no signs of slowing down.
