According to Daily Mail Online, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has expressed his desire to stay at Chelsea despite the interest from West Ham United for a potential move. He has been one of the best performers for the Blues in the past few weeks, which has finally given him a lifeline to make a case for himself.
Loftus-Cheek was expected to become a success at Stamford Bridge soon after he achieved promotion to the first team. However, a series of setbacks like injuries and competition have hampered his progress resulting in him falling down the pecking order. Several clubs like West Ham, Roma and Everton have offered him the chance to receive regular football.
However, all of them have been dealt a blow following the Englishman’s revelation after the 2-0 victory against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semi-finals. Speaking after the match, the midfielder has conveyed that he will continue to fight for a place, especially after Thomas Tuchel has instilled confidence by depending on him in recent weeks.
“I feel like the manager trusts me which gives me a lot of confidence, playing me against Real Madrid [in the Champions League last week] and bringing me on in the semi-final. That says a lot. I’m grateful to be in this position. Now we have to kick on.”
The 26-year-old has enjoyed a good run of form, especially in the past three matches for the Blues. His displays against Southampton, Real Madrid, and Palace could finally give him the breakthrough that he has been yearning for quite some time.
Moreover, the Eagles chairman Steve Parish was so impressed by the Premier League ace that he revealed that they would try to get the midfielder this summer. That showcases how good Loftus-Cheek has been for us in this period, indicating that he may have a spot in the team after all.
Even if Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are in line to return to the West London side after their respective loan spells, Loftus-Cheek could still have a prominent role in the team. After all, Saul Niguez could return to Atletico Madrid while Ross Barkley could also be deemed dispensable.
What’s more, N’Golo Kante has struggled to perform at his best this year as he did in the past season or so. Even Jorginho has failed to hit the same heights as he did during our impressive run to win the Champions League last term.
In such a case, Loftus-Cheek would be a dependable option for Tuchel to have, especially if his recent couple of performances are anything to go by. The central midfielder must continue to perform in this manner throughout the rest of this campaign to make the best case for himself. Whether that will happen, though, remains to be seen.
