According to Adam Newson, the club’s correspondent for Football.London, Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi has missed another training session, having struggled to recover from his Achilles injury. This update would be concerning, to say the least, considering how he has now missed about one month of action so far.
Hudson-Odoi picked up the unfortunate injury during the Blues’ 3-2 win against Luton Town in the FA Cup in early March. Thomas Tuchel had expressed ahead of the Premier League defeat to Brentford that the winger continues to have issues with his Achilles. Not to mention, the boss added that the attacker is suffering from lower back problems as well.
Ben Chilwell is the only other absentee from the training session that took place this morning ahead of the first leg match against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals. The wing-back has already been ruled out for the remainder of this season.
Hudson-Odoi’s situation does cause some real concerns, considering how we have not received any definitive updates regarding his injury. It was not thought that he would be out on the stands for this long, which could probably indicate that there are some issues with his recovery.
Tuchel will give further updates on the matter in his press conference, so we remain hopeful about getting more information on Hudson-Odoi. Since the remaining players have been involved in training, it should indicate that Edouard Mendy is fine and should be available against Madrid.
Mendy had undergone some issues with his knee during the 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Bees. Fortunately, it seems that he has overcome any problems he had at that time. That also means Christian Pulisic is back in contention, who missed the last game due to jet lag.
This update would give us some boost as Mendy and Pulisic would add to our depth for the match against Los Blancos. We would need all the players that are available as the first leg of the UCL quarter-finals could shape the rest of this campaign.
The damning defeat to Thomas Frank’s side did adversely impact our morale. We need to show a reaction against Carlo Ancelotti’s side, which is a major challenge indeed. Chelsea must remain mentally strong and use the weekend’s setback to push themselves to do better. Only time will tell if we will be at our best this time around and get the season back on track.
