A View From The Bridge

“Disgraceful display”- Several fans react as Brentford convincingly down Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Some fans react as Chelsea succumb to an embarrassing loss to Brentford at home

Chelsea faced a humiliating Stamford Bridge defeat at the hands of Brentford who are currently placed in the bottom half of the table. With the first half being a relatively cagey affair, the fixture came to life in the second half as the fans got to witness a barrage of five goals at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues who were slowly starting to creep up on Liverpool and Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title received a major setback as our West London rivals trashed us with a 1-4 scoreline. Antonio Rudiger broke the deadlock with a spectacular strike that would put many elite forwards to shame in the 48th minute.

The celebration was only short-lived as Vitaly Janelt equalized in the 50th minute for the Bees. This served as the launching pad for what would be one of the most shocking results in the PL this season. Christian Eriksen quickly doubled the lead in the 54th minute for Thomas Frank’s men and there was no looking back after that.

Janelt made it three with a scrumptious lob over Edouard Mendy in the 60th minute of the game. Whilst the defending UEFA Champions League winners tried their best to get into the game luck wasn’t about to favour us on the day. Kai Havertz would have thought he pulled one goal back in the second half but was ruled out for handball. Yoanne Wissa who had just entered the pitch didn’t take long to put the ball past the Senegalese keeper for the fourth goal in the 87th minute.

Brentford put in a great shift not only in the attacking department but also had a sturdy presence at the back and only gave us few opportunities to really trouble David Raya which were few and far between. Whilst this result would have come as a shock to many of our club faithful, the players should now put this behind them as they take on Real Madrid in their upcoming UEFA Champions League tie on 7th April.

The Blues will now be hoping to learn from this and avoid any sense of complacency as we head into the business end of the campaign, still having a lot to play for. Chelsea would be looking to make a strong comeback and use this as motivation to put up better results in their upcoming fixtures.
