Speaking to reporters ahead of the Chelsea vs Real Madrid fixture (h/t ESPN), Christian Pulisic highlighted that he is enjoying his football at the moment and isn’t overly concerned about his current contract at the moment.
The 23-year-old has been a key player for the Blues, chipping in with important goals from time to time. Nagging injury issues may have been an obstacle ever since he made the switch to Stamford Bridge but the USMNT international seems to be getting back on track once again.
His current contract with Chelsea runs out in 2024 and the former Borussia Dortmund player has been linked with a move away from the club. Pulisic has been an integral part of our attacking setup and scored in both legs of our UEFA Champions League Round of 16 fixture against LOSC Lille this season to help us get into the next round of the competition.
In a conversation ahead of the Chelsea vs Real Madrid (h/t ESPN), Christian Pulisic reiterated that he was happy with his current state of affairs. He signalled that he wasn’t really thinking about the contract issues at the moment and one wouldn’t doubt him for playing his cards close to his chest.
“Of course, I still have years left on my contract. I’m feeling good, I’m happy here. We’ve been successful, we’ve done some great things as a team while I’ve been here. Currently, I am enjoying my football and I’m just going to finish the season out strong. That’s not something exactly I’m worried about right now but I’m feeling good right now.”
Whilst the 23-year-old has been used predominantly as a centre-forward and attacking midfielder this campaign, we have also seen him play as a right-winger, left-winger, second striker as well as right midfield. His versatility has been a great boon for Thomas Tuchel who had to deal with a plethora of injury issues as well as a Covid outbreak in the 2021-22 season.
Pulisic has now bagged six goals and notched up four assists in 28 matches across all competitions for the west Londoners this season. While these stats may not seem too boisterous, his ability to zoom past players and open up spaces for others comes in handy on numerous occasions, especially against teams that like to play with a low block.
He has bagged some crucial goals for us in the past and we hope that he can make a difference in the upcoming quarter-final against Los Blancos. The Chelsea attacker also had quite a productive time with his national side as he bagged a hattrick in the 5-1 USA victory over Panama during the last international break.
The American national team thus qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and we hope that the former Dortmund player can use all of this momentum to help us bag some more silverware before the end of the season. His current comments should put us at ease but only the future can predict what is really in store for Christian Pulisic.
As of now the American international and the entire Blues squad are looking forward to their tie against the Spanish Club. We went on to defeat the Santiago Bernabeu outfit in the semi-final last season and Carlo Ancelotti’s men could be hungry for revenge. Chelsea will therefore have to be at their best in both legs should they dream of qualifying for the next round of the competition.
