According to Daily Mail Online (h/t The Sun), Liverpool are lining up a double transfer swoop, which includes signing Chelsea target Aurelien Tchouameni. He has enjoyed a great season so far with AS Monaco and has quickly become a key presence in the French national team as well.
The Reds are looking to strengthen their midfield by signing their top transfer target Tchouameni from the Ligue 1 side. However, they also plan to target Aberdeen starlet Calvin Ramsay alongside him this summer. This news would be a blow for the Blues, who are actively trying to secure the Monaco ace’s signature ahead of the next term.
That being said, Thomas Tuchel’s side would also need to worry about the other interested parties who are vying to facilitate a move for Tchouameni. The Frenchman has garnered interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United as well for a potential transfer. He could cost his potential suitors a fee of around £33.5million.
The 22-year-old is one of the best midfield prospects in French football and is arguably one of the best young defensive midfielders in Ligue 1 right now. As such, it is understandable why he is on the radar of some of the top European clubs. For that very reason, Chelsea would be smart to do everything in their power to bring the talented star to Stamford Bridge.
The Ligue 1 midfielder seems to be a complete package, having shown good attributes on and off the ball. That is further proven by the fact that he leads the French top-flight charts for interceptions while simultaneously being in the top ten places for tackles, headers and passes into the final third.
Midfield is an area that we must focus on at the earliest to prevent a scenario that is happening with our defence right now. However, with Jurgen Klopp’s side posing an issue, things would not be easy for us at all. They are currently in the hunt for a quadruple and offer themselves as an attractive option for any young player.
Jorginho and N’Golo Kante cannot keep playing at the top level forever, and the latter has looked tired and off-form a number of times this season. Saul Niguez was signed last summer but only on a loan deal from Atletico Madrid, while Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are yet to convince Tuchel to make them regular first-team starters.
However, Los Blancos are leading the transfer race for the talented Frenchman, dealing a further blow to our chances. As such, we must plan an offensive and raise the pressure, although the current sanctions do not help us in any case.
Hence, Tchouameni would be a smart option to bring in if we want to further enhance our midfield and deal with several competitions in a long season. However, we have a lot of ground to cover in this pursuit, so only time will tell how this situation will turn out in the coming months.
