Transfer News: Chelsea target Ronald Araujo unhappy with Barcelona for Andreas Christensen contract offer
According to Spanish news outlet Sport (h/t Football.London), Chelsea target Ronald Araujo is unhappy with Barcelona for the contract offer that has been proposed to Andreas Christensen. The former was recently involved in his side’s 1-0 win victory over Sevilla and had dropped one of his best performances once again at Camp Nou.
Araujo will see his current contract with Barca expire in the summer of 2023. Both parties are engaged in talks over a renewal, but an agreement has not been reached just yet. However, in a boost to the Blues’ pursuit, it is claimed that the centre-back is in “anger” with his club over their decision to offer a better proposal to Christensen.
The Chelsea star is stated to be close to joining the Blaugrana club and is set to be offered a financially better contract than the La Liga ace. That seems to have apparently caused some displeasure with the latter, with both of them expected to be defensive partners at Camp Nou next season.
Unexpected boost?
We would be delighted if Thomas Tuchel’s side could bring in Araujo, as it seems that Christensen is nearing his departure this summer. The latter has less than six months left on his current deal, and an extension appears to be off the cards going by the aforementioned news.
Those who have been keeping tabs on the Barca centre-back would realise that he has improved quite a lot under Xavi Hernandez. A dominant presence in a physical sense, Araujo is also agile and smart when defending.
Under the right guidance, there is no putting a limit on his potential and he can truly be one of the best defenders in the future. Tuchel’s Chelsea would offer him considerable playing time if we take into account Thiago Silva’s age and the uncertainty surrounding the future of a number of our centre-backs.
There is still a possibility that he would renew his contract, which we must always be wary of moving forward. There are still a lot of days left until the end of this season and many things can happen during that time. Unless confirmed by the interested parties in such deals, it is best not to take any news as a fact.

We have to wait and see how the contract negotiation develops in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window. Once the market opens up, the West Londoners must make sure that the transfer ban is lifted by then.
Until then, let’s hope that the Uruguay international would not sign a new deal with Xavi’s team, as a contract extension would all but put an end to our pursuit.
