A View From The Bridge

Opponent Watch: Chelsea told if Carlo Ancelotti will be present in the UCL clash tonight

Carlo Ancelotti will make it at Stamford Bridge for the Chelsea vs Real Madrid tie with latest Covid test returning negative

According to a statement issued by Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti will make it to Stamford Bridge for their UEFA Champions League clash against Chelsea. The Italian manager has returned a negative Covid-19 result and will be travelling in the morning to join his team in London.

There was a huge possibility until yesterday that the former AC Milan manager might not make it for the first leg of their UCL tie against Chelsea. The 62-year-old manager was absent for his side’s victory over Celta Vigo in the La Liga last weekend. Despite all these ominous signs, Ancelotti has won the race against time and will be with his team as they take on the Blues.

The former Chelsea manager has helped Los Blancos maintain a healthy lead in the Spanish top flight this season with a huge gap of 12 points between themselves and second-placed Barcelona at the moment. Whilst the Santiago Bernabeu outfit may look like runaway leaders in Spain, the Champions League is a whole different ball game as the West Londoners defeated them last season in the semi-final of the competition.

Ancelotti makes it to Stamford Bridge once again

The Spanish giants are certainly not invincible and the trashing at the hands of Blaugrana in the most recent El-Classico is testimony to that fact. Ancelotti has often come under the radar for his lack of rotation in the squad and this could also put a lot of physical stress, creating a sense of fatigue amongst the core players who have to play across several competitions in the campaign.

That being said, the 13-time Champions League winners would be hungry for revenge as they face the same opponent who exited them out of the prestigious competition last year. Whilst we were riding high last season, the Blues have had to deal with several on-field as well as off-field issues this time around.

Thomas Tuchel has had to deal with a plethora of nagging issues along with a Covid crisis at the start of the season. Currently, the Blues have a sense of uncertainty around the ownership but that should be decided by the end of April according to the developments taking place.

Whilst the Blues largely did a good job of putting all the chatter behind them, we suffered a humiliating 1-4 loss at the hands of our West London rivals Brentford. The German manager chose to rest some of his experienced midfielders as they returned from the international break riding on several different emotions.

We would be hoping that the Stamford Bridge outfit can put that shocking loss behind them as they take on Real Madrid. The visitors will be provided with an extra boost due to the presence of Carlo Ancelotti and it would be interesting to see how this showdown unfolds.

The Italian was, of course, the manager of Chelsea between 2009 and 2011, where he led us to a Premier League title, an FA Cup, and a Community Shield trophy.
