Fans react on Twitter to Chelsea beating Crystal Palace 2-0 to progress to the FA Cup final to face Liverpool in the summit clash
Taking to Twitter, Chelsea fans reacted to their club reaching the final of the 2022 FA Cup competition after beating Crystal Palace 2-0 in the semi-final held at Wembley Stadium.
In a game that saw the scoreline stay as it was at half-time, the Blues burst into life in the second half of the match as Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount put their side ahead to reach the summit clash of the FA Cup, where they face rivals Liverpool, who are looking to complete the quadruple this season.
The west London club also had to deal with a first-half injury to Mateo Kovacic, who was then replaced by Loftus-Cheek. The Englishman would then go on to open the scoring for his boyhood club, as he helped manager Thomas Tuchel reach yet another final this campaign.
Thus far, Tuchel has managed to help the Stamford Bridge outfit to reach the summit clashes of the FIFA Club World Cup, Carabao Cup, and the FA Cup, with Chelsea going on to win the Club World Cup after beating Palmeiras 2-1 in the final.
Blues reach yet another final
The German manager played his cards right against Palace, setting up against Patrick Vieria’s men in his usual 3-man defence and restricting the opposition to just a couple of shots on target. The Blues also dominated possession against the rival London side.
Chelsea now face a tough test against Liverpool in the final, who blew away current Premier League table-toppers Manchester City 3-2 in the other semi-final of the FA Cup. The game between the two English sides will now take place on May 14 at Wembley Stadium.
Tuchel waited to make his other substitutions after his side was 2-0 up in the match, making a triple change right after Mount’s goal, tightening up his midfield by bringing on N’golo Kante and sharpening his attack by introducing Romelu Lukaku and Hakim Ziyech.
Not many expected Loftus-Cheek to change the course of the game after he came on as a forced change due to Kovacic’s injury, but the Cobham product went on to play an influential part in the game and turned out to be an inspired change from the former Paris Saint-Germain boss – even out of necessity.
