The British Department of Culture, Media and Sport declined claims that the government is happy with the remaining bidders for Chelsea

In a statement by a British Government DCMS spokesperson as quoted by Football.London, The UK Government refutes any suggestion that they are happy with the four remaining bidders in the race for the sale of Chelsea football club.

Consortiums led by Todd Boehly, the Ricketts family, Martin Broughton, and Stephen Pagliuca are the main leaders in the race to buy the Blues at the moment. The West Londoners were in a precarious state after the Government imposed sanctions on Roman Abramovich due to his pro-Kremlin ties.

The Raine Group has been given the task to facilitate the sale of the defending UEFA Champions League winners. It is believed that the club will hear final offers from all relevant parties until 14th April and the proposed takeover will be presented to the government by 18th April.

In a statement by the DCMS Spokesperson as quoted by Football.London, it is highlighted that the government’s only role will be to consider an application for an amended license of the club.

“PA’s reporting is inaccurate and wrong. The Government has no role in establishing a preferred bidder for Chelsea Football Club. Assessments of owners and due diligence are a matter for the club and the Premier League, not the government. Our role is to consider an application for an amended licence that authorises a sale of the club when it comes forward with a preferred bidder.”

Where does the fate of Chelsea lie?

While the club enjoyed a lot of success under our former Russian owner, it is now time to look into the future. The West Londoners have been revitalised and are now considered amongst the elite clubs in Europe as well as England. The Stamford Bridge outfit could thus be seen as a lucrative asset by many.

The club has a great presence all across the globe with its fans spread in different nooks and corners. The profile of the new ownership would hence receive a great boost just by being affiliated with us. While this may be true, it is necessary to see that only the absolute best amongst these four groups should be chosen to take over at the helm.

Not only would this entail someone who is willing to invest heavily in the club, but also someone who is a living embodiment of our values and ethos. The new owner should also take into account the sentiments of the locals as well as the supporters of this prestigious club.

While it may be easy to get caught up in the glamour and commercial aspect of the game, football is largely dictated by emotions and the rapport that you have with those who back you week in and week out. All things must come to an end and we hope that this can be the start of another glorious chapter in the history of our club.
