According to Spanish source Sport (h/t The Sun), Barcelona transfer target Antonio Rudiger has had his wage demands revealed as he nears his exit from Chelsea this summer. He is likely to depart Stamford Bridge at the end of this campaign, which has prompted him to take this current stance.
Rudiger is out of contract in the summer transfer window and has attracted interest from elsewhere as a result. He is legally able to reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs at this moment ahead of a potential move. Barca are joined by Manchester United, Juventus and Real Madrid as they compete with each other to get their hands on the defender.
The German has made it clear that he wants to earn £115,000-per-week in wages plus a signing on bonus for a summer move. However, the interested parties have not been able to reach common ground with the central defender regarding a potential transfer. They could not satisfy the centre-back with their proposals forcing his future into a kind of limbo for now.
This piece of information is a massive blow for us- there is no hiding that. The centre-back is a key piece in our backline, and losing the defender’s services could be detrimental to our future success. As such, it is concerning, to say the least, if he departs for free in the summer.
The wage demand isn’t the most exorbitant, considering Romelu Lukaku apparently earns £450,000-a-week with bonuses at Stamford Bridge. But the bit about the signing bonus would concern the Blues as it could add to the cost if Chelsea were to offer him a new deal.
Supposedly, the demands were revealed when the Premier League superstar’s agent, Sahr Senesie, met with the Catalans last week to discuss the possibility of a move. Fortunately, the Spanish side is unable to pay his wages of around £6million-per-year, but further talks are planned for the future.
We are currently restricted by the transfer ban, which prevents us from engaging in any sort of contract talks with our players. Hence, the club chiefs must find a solution soon enough before we lose hold of the German international. Only time will tell what lies in store for us regarding the defender’s future prospects.
Despite this update, fans would be hopeful that the former AS Roma man will stay with us past this term. That is because of Thomas Tuchel’s recent revelation when he expressed that he is confident about the defender renewing his current deal with them. Let’s hope to see that happen as the summer transfer window draws close with each passing day.
A club like Chelsea, who are the current UEFA Champions League holders and will want to challenge for the PL title next season, cannot afford to lose their best players and weaken their squad instead of strengthening it. It will send a wrong message to Rudiger’s current Chelsea teammates and the Blues faithful.
As such, it is imperative we try and do everything to keep the German at the Bridge.
