Thomas Tuchel addresses claims of Andreas Christensen being on his way to Barcelona
Thomas Tuchel has addressed the claims stating that Andreas Christensen is set to join Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The centre-back’s future at Stamford Bridge has been in uncertain waters for quite some time, which eventually led to the current situation.
Christensen is currently in the final year of his current deal, so he could legally reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs at this stage. Barca are interested in securing his signature for next season and are close to finalising a move. Meetings are underway to discuss the final details of the deal to reach a verbal agreement.
According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Tuchel has expressed his displeasure about the rumours that have unravelled in the past few days. He even added that the club is contemplating the prospect of losing the Dane at the end of this season.
“We hear the rumours – it’s clear and we are not happy about it. We have to consider the possibility he leaves us. Will we like it? No…”
Discontent like Tuchel
It is really frustrating to see this situation develop midway during a season as there is a chance that the harmony within the squad could be affected. After all, having uncertainties in the squad would do us no good, especially when there is still much to be played for.
It seems the 25-year-old will depart Stamford Bridge at the end of the current season since he has made up his mind to team up with the Catalans. It is claimed that an offer until 2027 has already been put on the table as Xavi Hernandez’s side look to reach a pre-contract agreement with the Blues defender.
If the West London club cannot stop a departure, in any case, they must prepare for life after the Premier League star. Suitable replacements must be added to the transfer shortlist, and active efforts must be made to secure their services.
What makes the current situation even worse is the contract situation of Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta. Both of them are also in line to become free agents in the summer transfer window. Losing all three of them could be detrimental to our future success.

Not to mention, we would need to target replacement centre-backs anyway, considering how Thiago Silva is in the twilight of his playing career as well. Malang Sarr has looked out of sorts in the recent matches he has played, as he could use more time to get accustomed to the Premier League surroundings.
Let’s hope that Tuchel and Christensen can “solve” this situation to ensure that the central defender would put in the effort even if he has made up his mind to move to La Liga. Time will tell how this situation would pan out in the coming months ahead of next season.
