Transfer News: Chelsea are ready to sell Jorginho next summer
According to the Italian source Football Italia (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are willing to sell Jorginho next summer as he contemplates his departure from Stamford Bridge at the end of this season. He has been a crucial player behind Thomas Tuchel’s success and it remains to be seen if his time in London is coming to an end.
The Italian will see his current contract at Stamford Bridge expire at the end of the 2022-23 season. While a renewal could be on the cards, the uncertainty regarding the club’s ownership and his advanced age makes an extension unlikely to happen. As such, the English side would be ready to part ways with him in the summer transfer window.
After all, the Blues would be at risk to lose the 30-year-old for free in one year if an extension is unlikely to be signed. Moreover, the midfielder is also open to assessing his options and is considering a return to Italy at the end of the current campaign. The uncertainty regarding the ownership has played a part in it, resulting in this particular situation.
Is this really happening?
The Chelsea star has been sensational for us in recent years, playing a key role in us securing several titles under Tuchel so far. His performances have been at a similar level for his country as well, indicating how he has turned his form around for the best.
The Premier League ace has not shown any indications of decline and it is baffling to see why we have taken this particular stance. The same can be said for the deep-lying midfielder who is contemplating the prospect of returning to play in Serie A.
After all, the West London club and the Italian international have formed a great partnership over the years and ending it does not seem reasonable at this moment. Even with the current uncertainty, we could decide to keep hold of him for longer. However, it goes against our tendency of not offering veteran stars long contracts.
If the Champions League holders decide to go down this route, they must consider whether there are enough options in the ranks to negate the effect of the former Napoli man’s departure. After all, one could argue that we do not have a proper replacement to take over if Jorginho eventually leaves.

Billy Gilmour could be an option, but it remains to be seen if he is ready to take the next step in his career. We may be forced to look into the transfer market, but one could question whether it would be wise to create such expenses amidst the uncertainty surrounding Roman Abramovich.
Then again, the Blues boss could play a role regarding Jorginho’s future. After all, he considers the midfielder to be “very intelligent“, so the boss may not agree with an exit after all. It remains to be seen how this situation turns out in the coming months ahead of next summer.
