Transfer News: Charly Musonda could join Roma this summer on a free
According to Goal (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea outcast Charly Musonda could be on his way to join Serie A giants Roma on a free transfer in the summer.
The Belgian playmaker is set to leave Stamford Bridge after being in the ranks for 10 years He could be set for a move to Serie A with Roma and Hellas Verona supposedly interested, as his contract at Chelsea comes to a halt at the end of this season.
Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is said to be keen on bringing the 25-year-old to Rome and Musonda could look at it as an opportunity to revive his playing career.
Musonda, when on loan at Vitesse, suffered a potentially career-threatening injury when he tore his posterior cruciate ligament in a friendly against Antwerp. He was given a 20% chance of playing football again but recovered miraculously from his injury troubles and has been fit for over a year.
Despite the Belgian’s desire to stay at Stamford Bridge, the lack of opportunities as well as not having his contract renewed means Musonda may have to look elsewhere to revive his stalling career.
A second chance?
Considered one of Chelsea’s biggest prospects when he joined the club, 10 years and three loan moves later, it is pretty evident that it has not worked out for the Belgian. A feisty winger on his day with quick feet in the final third of the pitch, he can still be an asset to many teams across the globe.
Still just 25, Musonda has a chance to revive his career and Jose Mourinho seems to be giving him just that opportunity with a reunion at Rome. The Portuguese manager could tap into Musonda’s potential and make him the player he was destined to be.
Musonda is a player with a lot of grit and determination. One does not recover from a potentially career-ending injury without a lot of willpower and the Belgian showed his desire to play at the top level when he offered to play for free to Chelsea to prove his abilities.

A second chance for Musonda seems to be right around the corner. Let’s hope the Belgian takes it with both arms and proves his abilities to the world. At this stage of his career, a change in scenery seems to be the best solution for all the parties.
It is clear he is not going to get into Thomas Tuchel’s side, with the club boasting of world-class talent up front. It just wasn’t meant to be, it seems, and this decade-long union may finally come to a halt at the end of this season.
