Thomas Tuchel is impressed with his players’ reaction to the ownership uncertainty
Speaking in his post-match interview after the 2-0 win against Middlesborough as quoted by Independent, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he has been impressed rather than surprised with the way the players have reacted to all the noise surrounding the club.
Chelsea’s win against the Boros was their sixth successive win on the bounce and fourth since the sanctions were placed on long-time owner Roman Abramovich. Despite all the uncertainty surrounding the club, Tuchel’s side seem unperturbed and continue marching on.
The Blues find themselves in contention for at least two more titles, the FA Cup and Champions League and despite the Premier League title seemingly out of reach, a Champions League spot is still up for grabs. While there was fear that the issues surrounding the club may affect the on-field performances, Tuchel’s men have responded in style.
When asked if he was surprised by the determination shown by his players, Tuchel said that there was no surprise but that he was very impressed with his team.
“They have impressed me – not surprised, but impressed. We cannot influence the situation.”
He went on to add how joining a club like Chelsea has made the job easier for him- and the overall work ethic around the establishment is something that he appreciates. The Blues are now one game away from making their second domestic cup final this year.
“The good thing is that from day one, I found a very ambitious club and a huge staff that is determined to push the players to the maximum level of performance, and this includes focus, this includes respectful behaviour, this includes an attitude of a team spirit that is needed.”
Isolated from the noise?
When long-time owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government and saw his assets frozen, there were fears that Chelsea could fold. However, the situation seems better now.
Concerns prevailed if Chelsea could finish this season and even if they did, there were fears on how the players will be affected by the noise. However, the players have done the talking on the pitch and a main credit for this goes to Thomas Tuchel.
Ever since the ownership saga at Stamford Bridge began, the German manager has protected his team in every press conference and interview and has almost created an isolated bubble for his players. It wouldn’t have been easy to face the press in such testing times, but he has held his head high and said the right words in front of the mic.
