Roberto Mancini reveals why Chelsea star Jorginho left the Italy camp despite their upcoming fixture against Turkey
According to Football.London, speaking after the defeat to North Macedonia, Italian head coach Roberto Mancini revealed why he let Jorginho return to Chelsea early. He also stated that the Blues had rested the midfielder for the FA Cup in light of his international commitments and it could therefore be seen as a gesture of good faith.
Italy conceded a late goal to North Macedonia in a shock defeat and will not be able to partake in the upcoming FIFA World Cup being played in Qatar. After that defeat, the 30-year-old stated that he would be haunted by the two penalties that he missed in the earlier group stages for the World Cup qualification.
Should he have converted those penalties Mancini’s men could have been on their way to the upcoming World Cup but their omission now means that the Azzurri will not have played in the prestigious competition for 12 years. In such a case the 57-year-old manager chose it wise to let go of some of his players despite having another match lined up against Turkey coming Wednesday.
Speaking after the defeat to North Macedonia, Roberto Mancini clarified why he let go of some of his players despite having another match against Turkey on Wednesday.
“I want to clarify this. The players left and I obliged them to do so. If we can do something for them and for the clubs, we are happy to do it. They would have gone in the stands against Turkey. Some of them had physical problems, so they wouldn’t play anyway. We did it already. Some of them didn’t want to leave, but I told them to go. Chelsea didn’t play Jorginho in the FA Cup so we thought it was fair to send him back. Some others had physical issues,”

The extra days could probably give the Italian midfielder some time to get back to his best after what would be an emotionally draining incident. Jorginho has been an integral part of our midfield under Thomas Tuchel alongside N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic.
Every professional player has his ups and downs. While it may be easy to give your best when everything goes your way, what the greatest players have in common is that they can get back up after hitting their lows. The Chelsea faithful would be hoping that Jorginho could get back up and put all of this behind him.
The 30-year-old has been a solid presence in the middle of the field. As we head into the business end of the season, Thomas Tuchel would be looking to marshall his troops as the club still have a lot to play for. The players could also require that extra boost of morale with all the uncertainty surrounding the club at the moment.

The German manager has done a great job so far as the games come thick and fast. Mancini’s decision could give us a great boost and we hope that Jorginho will be ready to go through the paces once again, putting everything that happened with Italy behind him. This is a job easier said than done but we would want him at his best if we are thinking about getting our hands on more silverware this season.
