European behemoths to challenge Chelsea in pursuit of highly-rated South American star

PSG enter the race to sign Barcelona star Ronald Araujo amidst Chelsea interest

According to the Spanish news outlet Sport (h/t The Sun), PSG have entered the race to secure the services of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo amidst interest from Chelsea for a potential move. He has been a commanding presence for his team and is arguably their best defender at this moment.

Araujo will enter the final year of his current deal at Camp Nou in the summer transfer window. Barca are eager to renew his contract, but they could be forced to sell him after this season if a renewal does not take place in the coming months. They are ready to sell him to the highest bidder, with the Blues keeping tabs on the situation.

Paris Saint-Germain have now registered the interest to sign the Uruguayan. They are willing to get him this summer, although they are also willing to wait to take advantage of the free transfer opportunity. That being said, the Catalans are hopeful of an extension being agreed upon in the coming months.

Potential transfer blow?

This update will be concerning for Thomas Tuchel’s side if there are active plans to sign the 23-year-old. After all, we may need to target him because of the potential centre-back crisis that could unravel at the end of this term. However, we would have it even more challenging due to the entry of the French side.

Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen could leave for free in the summer transfer window. We must prepare for a worst-case scenario and protect our long term interests. Araujo can help with that as he is among the best centre-backs in world football at this moment.

However, with the Ligue 1 club posing a threat, we must be on our toes at all costs. Man United and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation as they look to add Araujo to their respective squads. Several clubs are claimed to have already met with his representatives to make their case.

Man United have already put in a proposal for the La Liga defender and are ready to pay him more than £150,000-a-week in wages. With all these major clubs vying to secure his signature, we must raise our efforts to gain the pole position in this transfer race.

It remains to be seen if the Barca star would reach an agreement with his club to extend his stay at Camp Nou or not. If he has plans to leave elsewhere, we must do our best to bring him to Stamford Bridge due to the uncertainty surrounding the Blues centre-back trio.

If anything the United Kingdom government’s decision to hand Roman Abramovich more sanctions could also scupper our hopes of landing not just Araujo but others as well.
