“Day by day”- Petr Cech admits Chelsea may not finish current season due to sanctions

Petr Cech admits he is unsure if Chelsea will finish the season after Roman Abramovich sanctions

Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s tie against Newcastle as quoted by Daily Mail, Blues technical director Petr Cech has conceded doubts regarding the future of the club’s season, following the restrictions placed on the London based club.

Long time owner Roman Abramovich was placed on the sanction list by the UK Government after his assets including Chelsea were frozen. This, in turn, placed a lot of restrictions on the Blues including a ban on contract renewals, transfers and even selling tickets to matches at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been given a special license to continue operating subject to these restrictions with a reduced matchday budget. This has led the club to plunge into a huge crisis which may see the club impacted financially.

Chelsea technical advisor Petr Cech has expressed concerns over the future of the season

The negotiations for the sale of the club are going on but there is no clarity over who the new owners would be and what changes they would bring to Stamford Bridge. With so much uncertainty surrounding Chelsea, the technical director was questioned about the season’s future ahead of tonight’s clash to which his response was very sceptical.

“We have to admit that we go day by day, because it’s not in our hands. The conversations are going on (so) that we can finish the season.”

Can the Blues finish the season?

The Blues are still competing for a title in both the Champions League and FA Cup and are on course to secure a top 4 finish in the league. They also made it to the Carabao Cup final, although losing it to Liverpool.

Petr Cech has expressed that Chelsea have to take it day by day

Despite all the noise surrounding the club, Tuchel and his men have continued performing on the pitch and will want to continue doing so at least until the end of the current season.

There are no clear ideas as to what the future holds for Chelsea. With an ownership change, the Blues will embark on a new era but if it would be as successful as this one is something that is left to be seen.

More Chelsea News

Roman Abramovich’s reign is one of the most successful periods English football has ever seen and as it comes to an end, Chelsea will have to come to terms with reality and wade through this difficult period.

Until then, as Cech said, they will have to take it day by day. We certainly did that against Newcastle today, sealing a late win courtesy of a Kai Havertz goal. The top four spot looks ours already, but we cannot get complacent. The best we can do is focus on getting the results on the pitch, and hope for the best off it.
