Chelsea star N’Golo Kante has given his thoughts on his future at Stamford Bridge amidst interest from PSG ahead of the summer transfer window. He has enjoyed great success since leaving Leicester City back in 2016 and has gone on to become one of the best midfielders in world football.
Kante will enter the final year of his current contract with the Blues at the end of the current campaign. That has seen him touted to leave the club and seek his fortunes elsewhere. Paris Saint-Germain is claimed to be keeping tabs on his situation to try their cards to sign him in the future.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports (h/t Football.London), the Frenchman was asked about his future with the West London side. The central midfielder replied that he is eager to continue with the club moving forward, having enjoyed a great deal since joining them.
“Yes, since I came here I’ve spent many great seasons, with the team, the managers and the fans. I hope we can carry on like this, keep winning, and that’s the way I see the future.”
The 30-year-old has made it clear that he has his mind is set on staying at Stamford Bridge for the immediate future. That is a great piece of news considering the fact that he has performed at an otherworldly level for quite some time now. His words could also be interpreted as a message to the board that he is ready to engage in renewal talks.
After all, if the Blues would need a new offer to keep playing with us in the long run. The management should extend his current contract since the deal will expire next season. His stance is a sigh of relief for us since he will not entertain the interest from the Paris based club.
We have little need to be wary of the Ligue 1 giants from now on, taking into account what the Chelsea superstar has conveyed. Whether the hierarchy will offer him a new deal or not remains to be seen.
There are obviously uncertainties at this moment due to Roman Abramovich’s statement about selling the club. We are unsure about who the new owners will be and the direction they will guide us in once the sale is complete. We should consider their intentions and their impact on our future transfers and contract negotiations.
Even though the French international earns around £300,000-a-week in wages, he has certainly warranted that amount for his displays over the past few years. Whether the potential new owners would be ready to pay that sum or even improve that amount or not would only be known in due time.
