Newcastle United open loan talks with Real Madrid for Chelsea target Eden Hazard
According to the Spanish media outlet Defensa Central (h/t Daily Star), Newcastle United have initiated talks with Real Madrid to discuss a loan move for Eden Hazard, who is also a transfer target for Chelsea. His time at the Santiago Bernabeu has been a failure, and a change of scenario could help him rediscover his Stamford Bridge form.
Newcastle are looking to boost their stature next summer and have identified Hazard as a tool to make a statement. They have opened negotiations with Los Blancos as a result, with the Blues rivalling them for his signature. However, the latter has not made any formal requests just yet, handing the Toons the initiative in the race at this moment.
The Madrid based club are willing to entertain offers for the Belgian since they want to free up a large part of the £400,000-a-week salary that he is earning right now. With Kylian Mbappe expected to join on a free transfer this summer, they want to clear out some wages to bring in Erling Haaland alongside him.
What’s next for Hazard?
The 31-year-old seems to be in line to reach the end of his playing days with the Spanish club. He has hardly looked to be at his best since leaving us for a £100million move back in 2019. Perhaps a return to the Premier League could help him regain his lost form just like Philippe Coutinho has done at Aston Villa recently.
Thomas Tuchel’s side have not made any formal attempts and are just contemplating their options at the moment. With the Magpies entering the race, we must make our case if there are active plans to bring the La Liga forward to the club in the summer transfer window.
Since Eddie Howe’s side have already made their move, we cannot sit idly by as they could get far ahead of us in their attempt to sign the Real Madrid ace. That being said, we cannot accept taking over even half of his wages, considering the risks involved in a potential move.

After all, the Belgian international has been far from his best for quite some time and has also struggled with injuries issues. That being said, with Carlo Ancelotti’s side looking to part ways with a bunch of his wages, we could find it difficult to facilitate a move.
However, we could try and convince the Real Madrid attacker to take a wage cut to return to his former club. That would be in the best interest of all parties. But with the Magpies in the fray, we would need to beat them off to make our case. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
