Jorginho has given his thoughts on Chelsea forward Kai Havertz following their 1-0 win against Newcastle United yesterday. Both of them combined to get them the victory in the 89th minute of the game, enabling them to continue their four-match winning streak in the process.
The Blues had to dig deep at Stamford Bridge against Newcastle. The visitors have been rejuvenated following their business in the January transfer window. Eddie Howe led them to a nine-match unbeaten run coming into this game.
They posed a great challenge to the hosts, who were going through a lot of issues on and off the pitch due to injuries and ownership uncertainty. However, the players kept pushing for the winner as Jorginho and Havertz combined for a sublime goal to give us the win.
Speaking in the post-match interview (h/t Chelsea official website), Jorginho was full of praise for Havertz after the game and has lauded him as someone who can be decisive for them. Both of them have been teammates at the Bridge since the German’s high-profile move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2020.
“Kai is an amazing player and guy, who can make the difference for us. We believe in him because you can see the quality he has and the potential that is there. He is a key player for this team and can make the difference like we saw.”
Havertz is really looking like the player we spent £71million on to bring him into our squad. He has been getting into the groove this season and has seemingly adapted to the surroundings in England. He had a bit of a mixed start with us in the last campaign, but that has changed when we consider his performances this term.
With that goal, the German attacker has 11 goals and five assists to his name this campaign from 34 appearances across all competitions. More importantly, it is how impactful his goals have been throughout his time with us. And the current one enabled us to continue our momentum towards securing despite the injuries in the squad.
Jorginho has been crucial for us as well, increasing his tally to two assists following the victory against the Magpies. He also has nine goals this term from 37 matches across all competitions, but it is the composure and quality of passing that he brings in our midfield that really catches one’s eyes.
With a crucial Champions League match against Lille set to follow soon, we definitely needed to keep up our winning momentum. Not to mention, we also have a FA Cup tie coming up, and both these matches could be crucial in ensuring that we continue to win titles this season as well under Thomas Tuchel.
With Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner blowing hot and cold throughout the course of this season, someone like Havertz may well be the man we depend on to secure a strong finish to our season. Having scored the winner in the Champions League final against Manchester City last summer and in the Club World Cup final this year, he certainly knows what it takes to lead the team to victory in big games.
If it wasn’t for a few inches, his offside goal against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final would have been another feather in his cap. But there are still a lot of occasions left for the German to make a mark this season, and let us hope that is up for the task.
