Boost for Chelsea as Ben Chilwell returns to training at Cobham
According to Chelsea’s Official site, English wing-back Ben Chilwell has returned to training for Chelsea, handing the Blues good news on the injury front.
The 25-year-old left-back was enjoying a great run of form before he picked up an injury in their UEFA Champions League fixture earlier in the season against Juventus. It appeared that the former Leicester City player would not feature this season but this latest development brings a glimmer of hope that he just might.
Chilwell has returned to training earlier than anticipated and this could be another ominous sign for Thomas Tuchel. Reece James also made his first start for the Blues against Burnley after being on the sidelines for a substantial amount of time. The 22-year-old had an instant impact and opened the scoring for the West-Londoners on the day.
Whilst the 25-year-old has resumed training there is still no confirmation as to whether or not he will play for the Stamford Bridge outfit again this season. The club were also given another significant boost on the injury front this week as Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso were viewed in training this week.
What does Ben Chilwell bring to the team?
Astute wing-backs are a pivotal part of the modern game and Tuchel has had to rely on the creativity of his full-backs given the struggles that Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku have experienced. The Blues boss was without his first-choice wing-back for a great duration of time and the latest developments will be music to his ears.
It may be premature to assume anything at the moment with respect to the English international’s availability this campaign. There is little argument that the 25-year-old is a key player for the Chelsea XI and his impact on the field is clear for all to see.
cHILWELLwas enjoying a great time this campaign before sustaining his injury. He clocked three goals and bagged one assist in six matches in the Premier League this season. His ability on the ball and attacking instinct can be a great asset in the opposition half of the pitch.
The West Londoners have had to rely heavily on Marcos Alonso in the absence of Chilwell. Whilst the Spaniard has proven himself to be a capable replacement on several occasions, at 31 he does not bring the same kind of pace and intensity down the left-flak as compared to the English international.
