“A good league”- former Chelsea player reveals how he convinced striker to move to Italy

Former Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori reveals he convinced Tammy Abraham to join Roma

Speaking to The Guardian as quoted by The Athletic, Fikayo Tomori reveals convincing Tammy Abraham to make the move to AS Roma from Chelsea last summer.

Former Blues prospect Fikayo Tomori made the switch to AC Milan on an initial loan deal, which was later made permanent. The English centre-back struggled to get opportunities at Stamford Bridge and was forced to look at pastures new to kickstart his career.

Tammy Abraham was faced with a similar situation in the summer when he found himself out of favour in Thomas Tuchel’s team and was looking at other options to reignite his career. The talented striker had a lot of options to choose from but eventually decided to unite with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho in Rome.

Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham moved abroad to revive their career

The move has worked out really well for the former Blues striker, scoring 23 goals already in 40 appearances at Roma and has caught the eye of football watchers around the world. He has also managed to work his way back into Gareth Southgate’s team.

Former teammate Fikayo Tomori has revealed that he helped Abraham choose Rome when the striker was torn between the options that he had.

“When he said Roma was on the table, I said: ‘Bro this is a good league’.

Tomori admits that he had faith in Abraham’s ability to thrive in the Italian top flight. Given his personal experience, it has proven to be sound advice as Abraham is today amongst the finest frontmen in the league.

“I felt like it would develop his game a lot. He has scored a lot of goals this season for Roma, they’re fighting for a Champions League spot. Definitely it’s helped him and definitely I gave him rave reviews about Serie A because I enjoyed myself so much the first six months.”

A return to England on the cards?

For all his exploits in Italy, there is this feeling of inevitability that Abraham will be back in the Premier League sooner than later.

The English striker had the option to stay in the Premier League but he chose to move abroad and prove himself in Italy. It may not be long enough before English giants try to persuade the Roma forward to return home.

Abraham has had a flyer of a season in Italy and he will be hoping that he continues in the same vein. The World Cup is only a few months away and the former Chelsea striker is definitely in contention to cement a place in the England squad for the mega event.

Abraham will hope to continue enjoying his time in Italy, just like his pal Fikayo Tomori but it seems inevitable that both these English talents return to the Premier League sometime in the future.

Both players always had enough potential to make it big and it is good to see them live up to expectations in Italy. The fact that they also had to move out to rediscover their best form is a statement to the levels that are expected for footballers to succeed at Chelsea.
