Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea halt pursuit of Leeds United winger Raphinha amidst Barcelona interest
According to the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Chelsea have put a halt to their pursuit in signing Leeds United winger Raphinha amidst interest from La Liga giants Barcelona. He has been one of the few shining lights for Leeds United this season as they struggle to replicate the same promise they showed last time around.
The Brazilian has developed into one of the best players in his positions and will get even better in the right surroundings. Barca have been keeping tabs on him and have already held a meeting with his agent Deco. The Blues had shown an interest in the attacker but are on stand-by at this moment.
Liverpool have also added the 25-year-old to their shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window. Even though the Spanish side have held talks with his agent, they have not engaged in discussions with Leeds so far. His valuation is unknown at this stage as it would depend on his side’s future in the Premier League and the potential buy out clauses involved in a move.
Potential blow?
With all the issues that have been going around with our club, it is not surprising at all to see that we paused our pursuit of Raphinha for the time being. After all, our priorities lie elsewhere at this moment, following the UK Government’s decision to sanction Roman Abramovich.
Because of the transfer ban, we cannot facilitate any transfer dealing until the club reaches some kind of agreement with the Government. That being said, we are hopeful that the management can find a solution soon enough so as not to lose ground and also salvage our long term prospects.
With the Blaugrana side already pushing for a move, we have to respond at the earliest to make our case. The Reds cannot be overlooked either, making it even more crucial for the club officials to solve the current crisis at the earliest.

The Peacocks star has nine goals and three assists in his bag this campaign from 27 appearances in the league. He has often carried his side to key wins this season and the impact he has had at Elland Road is clear for all to see. He will undoubtedly be a massive addition to our squad if plans to land him come to fruition.
Timo Werner could be one of those, especially after Kai Havertz’s recent rise in form. That could pave the way for an arrival which is where Raphinha comes in. But for that to happen, this transfer ban must be put to an end as soon as possible. Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen in due time.
