According to Adam Newson, the club’s correspondent for Football.London, Chelsea injury returnees Reece James, Andreas Christensen and Callum Hudson-Odoi were seen in training ahead of the match against Brentford. The Premier League fixture will take place on Saturday, 2 April, at Stamford Bridge, where the Blues will look to regain momentum after the international break.
Christensen missed both friendly games for Denmark in this month’s international break due to a muscle issue. But it seems that he is in line to achieve full fitness after returning to team training. James, on the other hand, had suffered a hamstring problem, but he also looks to be in contention to feature against the Bees.
Hudson-Odoi has been sidelined for about a month with an Achilles injury, which prevented him from returning to the squad multiple times. However, he may have finally overcome the setback, which would be a major boost for the Blues ahead of their league fixture.
James’ return to fitness would be a great piece of news, considering how crucial wing-backs are to our team’s success. There was an upturn in form when the Englishman returned to the squad after his long term injury. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old picked up another setback, so we must be careful and not give him too many minutes from the get-go.
Christensen is also another major returnee for us, considering how Thomas Tuchel had to bring him back to his regular starting spot. The boss, at one point, tried to drop the Dane to the bench to renew his fast expiring contract, but the stance had to be changed for the team’s benefit.
As for Hudson-Odoi, it is unfortunate how the injury came at the worst possible moment when he was seemingly looking to reach newer heights. We remain hopeful that these setbacks will not prevent the 21-year-old from achieving the full potential that he has shown at a young age.
Jorginho also returned early from the the Italy national team after they suffered a damning defeat against North Macedonia that saw them fail to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. It is normal that he would be affected by such a setback, so Tuchel would need to help him get through this rough phase from a psychological perspective.
It was his penalty misses against Switzerland in the FIFA WC qualifying phase that saw them miss out on a guaranteed qualification spot in the first place.
The game against Thomas Frank’s side could be one of the best ways to follow the break as they have fallen off since the early promise they had shown at the start of this campaign. Then again, such factors do not matter much just after the break, as teams who quickly get back to their usual self are the ones who gain the upper hand in such matches.
Three points is a must for us as we need the momentum to take towards the high profile game against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals. Whether we would win or not remains to be seen.
