Chicago Cubs’ Ricketts family are considering the option of joining a group of investors in an attempt to purchase Chelsea
According to The Athletic, the Ricketts family who currently own Major Baseball League team Chicago Cubs could be weighing the possibility of joining a group of investors in a bid to purchase Chelsea FC. 15th March is understood to be the deadline for any bids for the club.
There has been a lot of uncertainty regarding the long-term future of the club after Roman Abramovich decided to end his association with the Stamford Bridge outfit. It is now being believed that the ‘Ricketts family’ could be seemingly interested should the possibility of any deal arise.
The Raine Group is the merchant bank that is handling the sale process of the Blues at the moment and is thought to have a working relationship with the Ricketts. Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts is a football fan and also held an ownership stake in Derby County at one point in time.
This could play a significant role in their interest but any move would be a combined family decision. There have been a lot of rumours circulating regarding the possible owners in the post-Abramovich Chelsea era. A plethora of names have come up with a recent report from Sky Sports stating that up to 10 parties can be interested to purchase the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Prominent names like Conor McGregor and Turkish business tycoon Muhsin Bayrak are also in the fray. It would therefore be interesting to see how the whole process unfolds ultimately with Abramovic thought to have put a £3billion price tag on the club.
The London-based club has been under the ownership of the Russian oligarch since 2003. Since taking over he has invested an enormous amount of resources into the club making it one of the most elite squads in England and Europe.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have also managed to create a great youth system ever since his arrival creating some of the most exciting young prospects along the way. Over the last couple of decades, the club has managed to attract some of the top names in global football and one cannot help but feel that the 55-year-old Russian owner played a huge role in it.
Despite all the off-field chatter the Blues have tried their best to maintain their on-field performances. The West Londoners suffered an emphatic loss to Liverpool on penalties in the final of the EFL Cup but came back strongly to record an impressive victory against Burnley in their last Premier League fixture.
