Transfer News: Chelsea offer star summer signing to European giants for just £42m

Chelsea want veteran outcast to seek Saudi Arabian switch if all other avenues fail this summer.

Chelsea are believed to have offered Romelu Lukaku to Paris Saint-Germain for £42million

According to But! Football Club (h/t Express), Chelsea are believed to be offering Romelu Lukaku to Paris Saint-Germain for a reduced fee of £42million. The Belgian striker has failed to recreate the form that he showed with Inter Milan and could be on his way out having just been purchased by the club in the summer.

The Blues have had a great deal of uncertainty in recent times. Roman Abramovich is one of the seven Russian oligarchs sanctioned by the British Government in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. That being said, there seems to be some form of respite as the 55-year-old Russian and the UK Government have thought to have found an agreement that would enable the sale of the club.

Abramovich though would have to forfeit any amount that he could have potentially made from the sale, also including writing off loans of over £1.5billion. This could be a good indication for the fans but any sale would have to be made in a short amount of time.

Whilst the Russian oligarch spent enormous sums of money in transforming the fortunes of the club in 2003, it could now be time to view what the post-Abramovich era holds for us. There seems to be a sense of uncertainty looking at the futures of some players and Lukaku could be one of them.

Is there a way back for Lukaku at Stamford Bridge

The Belgian international put on some fine displays for the Nerazzurri, conjuring a lethal partnership along with Lautaro Martinez up front. He played a pivotal role in guiding the Italian club to the Scudetto last campaign but seems like a shadow of his former self in recent months

The club forked out a club-record fee of £97.5m in order to lure the former Manchester United hitman. Things haven’t exactly gone as planned and the 28-year-old is now struggling to even cement his position in the starting lineup for the Blues.

Thomas Tuchel has preferred Kai Havertz upfront in recent fixtures as opposed to the Belgian. The German international has been impressive and has rediscovered his goal-scoring form off-late. Sadly the same cannot be said about Lukaku.

The former Evertonian striker is currently the highest earner at the Stamford Bridge outfit and pockets a jaw-dropping £325,000-a-week in wages. That is a mammoth amount considering the fact that he has hardly got going this season. Barring a few crucial games in the FIFA Club World Cup, the Belgian international hasn’t made a substantial impact recently.

The 28-year-old has struggled to get going and the Chelsea faithful could be losing their patience right now. This coupled with the current scenario that the West Londoners are facing could very well push the club to get him off their wage bills at least a fraction of the amount spent on him in the process.

With the business end of the season now at hand, the German manager could be looking to rotate his squad so as to preserve the fitness of the core players. This could provide the Belgian international with a plethora of opportunities before the end of the season to make his mark on the side.

An improved set of performances could go a long way in changing the minds at the club with respect to any transfer possibility. It’s time for Romelu Lukaku to pull up his socks and start delivering week in and week out.
