According to The Athletic {Subscription Required), Chelsea players’ agents have now been subjected to strict checks from the FA after the latter has decided to delay the release of funds to them. Initially, it was thought that the representatives would not be affected by the financial uncertainty, but that seems not to be the case.
The Blues have been thrown into a volatile environment after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned on March 10. However, it was believed that the commission payments to football agents would not be affected since they were deposited to the FA just before the restrictions were imposed on the club.
The FA are the ones who redirects these payments to the respective agents, but they have not sent the money at this moment. The officials have asked for proof of identity alongside several important documents followed by multiple checks before the commission will be sent to the representatives. They have taken this stance to prevent the sum from getting into the hands of people who have been sanctioned.
The stance from the FA is respectable as they do not want the money to fall into the wrong hands following the sanctions. But fans would want to know if their decision would negatively affect the club or not in the future. The club has a lot of things to take care of right now, and we do not want more of the same in the future.
Going by the data released in February last year, the West London side has made payments of around £35million over the last 12 months or so. As such, we can understand why the FA want to make sure that the sanctioned people would not be benefited from such a large sum of money.
This is just an added problem to the list of issues the club has already had to face in the past 11 days or so. But the club’s performance on the pitch is something to commend.
Despite the uncertainty and noise off the pitch, the Blues have beaten Norwich City, Lille, Newcastle United, and Middlesbrough in the past 10 days. But one thing that would worry fans would be the future of the players and what transpires this summer.
It is natural to be anxious about it given the situation we are currently in and given the role agents play in modern football, it is clear that they would have a say in the futures of certain players going forward.
With all these uncertainties, coupled with the processes involved in a potential sale, Chelsea have a lot of things on our plate to take care of right now. It remains to be seen how this situation will turn out to be in the coming months and whether we would be adversely affected by this update or not.
