Chelsea fans will be able to buy tickets for UCL fixture vs Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge

According to Football.London, despite the UK government’s prevailing sanctions on Chelsea, fans will be allowed to enjoy the quarter-final clash against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were imposed with sanctions by the UK government following the current Russia-Ukraine crisis. Blues owner Roman Abramovich has had his assets frozen, and his ownership came under threat as a result- subsequently impacting Chelsea’s day-to-day functioning as well.

Even though he has already initiated the process of handing the ownership to a new group, the sanctions are still in place. These sanctions barred the West London Club from operating as a business by banning players’ transfer, ticket sales, merchandise sales etc.

Due to such actions, Chelsea fans doubted whether they would be able to attend the coming Champions League first-leg fixture against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge on 7th April.

Boost for the Blues

However, the UK government recently issued a special license to Chelsea to continue operating as a football team with several restrictions in place. It seems under the given permission; the Blues will be able to sell tickets to the home fans- which comes as a massive boost to us given how much difference the support of your fans can make in tightly-contested, crucial European ties.

Our run to the UCL trophy last year comes as a perfect example of that, with the supporters often carrying the team over the line in crucial matches with their unwavering support.

Chelsea’s FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough saw just 700 of their home fans in attendance as they had purchased their tickets before the sanctions were placed. The Championship side wasn’t a match for us as we cruised to a comfortable win to book our place in the last four of the competition, where we now face Crystal Palace.

But it is highly unlikely that Los Blancos would be easy opponents. Their prowess in Europe’s elite club competition is unmatched and their comeback win against PSG shows how strong they still are despite the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo a few years back.

Well, if Chelsea have plans to defend their UCL title successfully, they would require the support of their fans. Defending the UCL title is no easy task. The last team to do it was Madrid themselves, who are our opponents in the last-eight stage.

The first leg of the tie takes place on 6th April at the Bridge, with the return leg at Santiago Bernabeu a week later.
