Report: Chelsea agreed terms with soon to be out of contract star before sanctions were imposed

Chelsea and Antonio Rudiger had an agreement over personal demands before the sanctions

According to Christian Falk of BILD on Twitter, Chelsea and Antonio Rudiger had reached an agreement over his personal demands before sanctions were imposed on the club. The restrictions could not come at an even worse time, considering how we could have put an end to the uncertainty regarding his future.

Rudiger is out of contract in the summer transfer window and is free to engage in pre-contract talks with foreign clubs as a result. He is being kept tabs on by the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain. There were claims of Bayern Munich being involved as well, but that has been denied in this update.

The Blues were in the process of agreeing to an extension with the German before the UK Government imposed the sanction on Roman Abramovich. They had reached a common ground regarding the terms involved in their personal demands. However, there were still some aspects to cover, such as the signing on fee, but their progress had been put to a halt.

Unfortunate timing!

The West London club can no longer engage in contract talks as a result of the restrictions that have been imposed by the UK Government. This blow could not have happened to us at an even worse as tying down the 29-year-old would have given us a sigh of relief.

Now the Premier League star’s future still remains in uncertain waters as the current situation puts us in a sort of limbo. That being said, let’s hope that the club can find a solution at the earliest so that we can continue to build on the progress we have made so far.

Not to mention, we can ask the German international to put an effort from his side to help us in this financially stricken situation. That would really be helpful, but we are unsure at this stage whether he would take that stance or not. We are hopeful that he would do just that, but it remains to be seen whether that is the case or not.

Due to the presence of all these interested parties, we must be wary at all times as the Blues centre-back can legally reach a pre-contract agreement with all clubs except Man United. We must ask the defender to give us some time to solve all these issues and then resume talks.

With Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta also being in the last months of their current deal, we cannot afford to lose Rudiger at all. After all, he is the most important among the trio and must stay at Stamford Bridge past this summer. Whether that will happen or not would only be known in due time.
