Chelsea superstar trio fearful of being left in limbo following impending Abramovich exit

Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen concerned about contract uncertainty due to Chelsea sale

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Cesar Azpilicueta, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are concerned about a potential contract uncertainty as Roman Abramovich is looking to sell Chelsea. Abramovich had recently released a statement on the club’s official website stating his intentions of finding new owners.

Azpilicueta, Rudiger and Christensen are all in line to leave on free transfers at the end of this season. However, they still have not made up their minds on their respective futures after next summer. As such, they are fearful that the latest developments could force them out of the club if the sale gets dragged moving forward.

After all, it is normal for the priorities to be changed due to the attempt to change ownership, which could result in their departures regardless of their intentions. Things could take a turn for the worse if a solidity behind the scenes cannot be found at the earliest, as it would also seep into sporting matters going by this update.

Collateral damage?

We could be in line for a rough time up ahead if a sale is not completed soon enough. The consequences of the process getting delayed could be detrimental as the current board would probably have halted such contract talks. Obviously, their immediate priority is to solve the ownership uncertainty, which is where their attention would be right now.

We are hopeful that a solution can be found at the earliest as other clubs would be looking to take advantage of the current situation. Rudiger has interest from Real Madrid, but his decision would most likely be made in the summer transfer window, as was the case even before the current situation.

As for Azpilicueta, the 32-year-old is being targeted by Barcelona, with them being ready to offer him a contract of at least two years. Christensen is also on their radar, which puts into perspective the crisis that awaits us if a proper solution is not found.

Rudiger’s stance to take a final decision after this campaign gives us some time to prepare ourselves. However, the situation gets worse with the skipper and the Dane, considering the lack of information on their side. Barca could try to take advantage of this situation, but we must try to make the centre-back duo delay their choices until this matter is solved.

After all, it would be wise to decide on the future prospects after assessing all the options that lie ahead of them. Who knows, maybe the potential new owners could even find a breakthrough in contract negotiations which has not happened so far. Let’s hope that the defenders would give us some time to finalise an ownership change to make our case to them in the future.
