Barcelona seek to reach agreement with Chelsea star Andreas Christensen before April
According to 90Min (h/t Football.London), Barcelona are plotting to reach an agreement with Chelsea central defender Andreas Christensen before April. Uncertainty surrounds the Danish international’s future at Stamford Bridge amidst impending contract issues.
Christensen is in line to become a free agent in the summer transfer window, and an extension seems not to be on the cards at this moment. He is close to leaving the English club at the end of this season, with Barca expressing an interest to secure his services.
The Catalans are planning to find common ground with the 25-year-old before the end of this month. They want to put an end to their interest by getting a deal as soon as possible. It remains to be seen if a final decision would be made known during the timeframe mentioned in this update or not.
No chance for a renewal?
It seems that there is no way for us to convince the Dane to extend his current deal to stay past this season. With the recent sanction that has been imposed on Roman Abramovich, we cannot engage in contract negotiations either. That has put us in a bit of a rut preventing us from making a final stand.
It would have been ideal if the West London side could convince the Premier League star to pen a new deal with us. After all, he plays a crucial part in our backline and has been integral to our defensive solidity so far. His departure would be a big blow for us as we need to find an adequate replacement.
We could try to ask the Danish international to give us some time until we can find a solution to get rid of the sanction imposed on the club. Then again, if the defender has already made up his mind to leave elsewhere, there is not much we can do to tie down the centre-back on a new contract.

The club must now reach an agreement with the UK Government to assist us in this matter. After all, we need to find a replacement for the Blues star as soon as possible, which is not possible under the current circumstances. That is especially highlighted by the fact that Cesar Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger are also in the same boat as Christensen.
Azpilicueta and Rudiger could also leave us for free after this season, which goes to show the uncertain situation that awaits us moving forward. Let’s hope to see a solution to this subject in the coming months ahead of next summer.
