According to Team Talk (h/t Football London), Jose Mourinho is keen on taking Chelsea starlet Conor Gallagher to Rome.
The 22-year-old English midfielder is out on loan at Crystal Palace this season. The Blues youth academy star is performing exceedingly well in the Premier League at Selhurst Park, scoring eight goals and creating five in 30 matches this season.
The English sensation is one of the biggest prospects in football and continues to put in one high octane performance after the other for Crystal Palace. Gallagher has the potential to develop into a top-class player and it is in Chelsea’s interests to keep him.
The Cobham prospect is expected to establish himself in the Blues’ first team next season. However, the former Chelsea boss is keen on making Gallagher follow Tammy Abraham’s footsteps and swap London for Rome.
Now already an England international, Gallagher’s stock is only set to keep rising considering the immense potential that he possesses. There is no doubting the midfielder’s talent and although working under a manager of Mourinho’s expertise could be tempting, the youth academy product might want to make it big at Stamford Bridge.
Assuming Chelsea still play in Tuchel’s 3-4-3 system next season, Gallagher could easily occupy one of the two base midfield roles.
The Blues have Mateo Kovacic, N’golo Kante and Jorginho as primary options along with loanee Saul Niguez and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Assuming Saul’s loan deal is not made permanent, a spot could open in midfield for Gallagher to occupy.
Tuchel could want to keep the English international but he will have to keep in mind that Gallagher is very young and needs game time to develop. Keeping him in the team and not playing him enough is only likely to stunt his development process.
Conor Gallagher is a talent for the present and the future. Chelsea will not want to lose their prized asset but may be forced to reconsider his options, especially considering the ownership change they are experiencing.
