Transfer News: Chelsea in talks with Real Madrid to take Eden Hazard on loan
According to Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez (h/t The Express), Chelsea are engaged in talks with Real Madrid over a potential loan for Eden Hazard in the summer transfer window. He has failed to live up to the expectations since moving to Santiago Bernabeu back in 2019.
Real initially signed Hazard from the Blues for a transfer fee of £83million and are in line to suffer massive losses for his services. They are looking to part ways with him to free up wages for facilitating a transfer for Erling Haaland. He currently earns around £380,000 per week, which is unjustifiable given his performance, to say the least.
Los Blancos are looking to facilitate a loan move for the Belgian, which will see him rejoin the West London side. The terms of the proposed deal is a temporary straight transfer for one year, which will see him return to the Madrid capital in 2023. They want to reach an agreement as soon as possible ahead of next summer.
Feasible?
A permanent transfer would have been too risky for us even if the 31-year-old is a club legend. A loan move makes more sense as our attackers have struggled to make an impact consistently. However, even a temporary deal must be carefully assessed due to his high wages that do not match his current output.
The La Liga ace has failed to garner even 900 minutes despite featuring in 22 matches across all competitions. He has scored just once this season alongside two assists across all competitions. He has largely been utilised as a rotational player, which could be down to the injury struggles and fitness issues that have kept him on the sidelines for too long.
For these reasons, we should entertain a loan if the Spanish giants are ready to share the wage load for the duration of one year. Or else, we would be receiving the short stick in this case as the Belgian international could end up continuing on the current trajectory.

Apart from Hakim Ziyech in recent times, we cannot say with certainty that others have performed well consistently in the attack. We could use addition because of the situation at the end of this season. The Real Madrid forward could be a solid choice if he could recapture his old form once again in the Premier League.
We cannot rule out that outcome as Philippe Coutinho has done the same at Aston Villa after leaving Barcelona. Who knows, maybe Los Blancos star’s arrival could also help Romelu Lukaku as well due to the connection they have built at the national team. Time will tell how the negotiations will develop as we near the end of this campaign.
