Transfer News: Chelsea will still pursue Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele next summer
According to 90min (h/t Football.London), Chelsea have continued to identify Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele as a potential target ahead of the summer transfer window. He could be in line to leave Camp Nou after this season due to his failure to succeed since leaving Borussia Dortmund.
Dembele is expected to depart the Blaugrana club on a free transfer next summer. Moreover, they will most likely not try to pressure the forward in trying to renew his current deal, which would be of help to the Blues’ interest. The English club are keen on adding the attacker to their squad, having admired him for a long time.
However, they will have to deal with Paris Saint-Germain, who are also keeping tabs on the situation ahead of the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old is claimed to be interested in returning to his home country, having played at Stade Rennais early in his career.
Dembele to Chelsea or PSG?
It seems that a stay at Barca can be ruled out based on the information provided in this latest update. That leaves PSG, who would pose a threat due to their stature as a club. However, the major concern would be the Frenchman’s desire to return to Ligue 1, which could be a roadblock to our pursuit.
That being said, we are still targeting the La Liga ace as an option to add to our squad next summer. He could be a good addition to our team if the board can reduce the risk involved in a potential transfer to an extent. After all, his injury troubles have been well documented since moving to Spain back in 2017.
Despite the setbacks, the Barca star has shown signs of his quality which has been the case this season as well. Since returning from injury, he has been one of the bright sparks for the Catalan club and has scored a goal while assisting thrice from 798 minutes.

Dembele rose to prominence in the world of football under the reins of Thomas Tuchel at Dortmund. So it would not be too much of a reach to say that the Blues boss can help him get his career back on track. His ability to play on both wings could be of great help, considering how our attacking options have struggled to maintain consistency.
It remains to be seen if the West London club can finalise a transfer for Dembele by beating Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Only time will tell whether that is the case or not as we near the end of the season.
