Transfer News: Chelsea are going to enter the race to sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United

According to Fichajes (h/t Football.London), Chelsea plan to make an attempt to sign Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba.

Paul Pogba hasn’t enjoyed his time at Old Trafford this campaign. He started the season in a blazing manner but an injury ruled him out for a fair part of United’s games in recent months.

He has appeared in just 17 games across all competitions so far this season and even though the Frenchman recently made his comeback to the field, it can be argued that he isn’t performing at the level we know he can produce for his national team.

Despite his poor performances, Pogba’s future has attracted major speculation from the media. The United midfielder is currently serving the final six months of his contract and will be free to leave in the summer transfer window.

Pogba to Chelsea?

Newcastle United and Arsenal have been interested in the ex-Juventus man but it is now believed that Chelsea have entered the race to secure the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s signature.

Pogba certainly is a world-class player and has had a glowing career, especially for France and Juventus. Even at United, he has often looked class apart from the rest of his midfield teammates over the years.

He wouldn’t come cheap for any team, given his stature and legacy. Given that he is set to become a free agent this summer, his potential suitors may save on his transfer fee but would probably have to cough up a significant sum when it comes to his wages.

On the other hand, we already have one of the best midfield trios in the Premier League – N’Golo Kanté, Jorginho and Mateo Kovačić seem to have found their home at the Bridge. Pogba, at 28, isn’t of a much different age profile than Kante and Jorginho, and it would probably be wise if we address other areas of the pitch first.

We already have excellent young players in the team and loanees such as Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour are also making a solid impression by putting in good performances for their new clubs. The centre-back position is one area where we would be smart to strengthen and a right-back to offer competition to Reece James would certainly not be a shabby option to pursue.
