According to The Sun, Chelsea will face off against Arsenal to secure the signature of Crystal Palace midfielder Michael Olise in the summer transfer window. He continues to develop at a rapid rate and is now making waves in the English first division with the Eagles.
The Blues tried to sign Olise last summer from Reading but Palace made a major coup by finalising a transfer for £8million amidst competition from European and Premier League giants. They were hopeful that the interest from other clubs would die down following the move, but that has not been the case.
Everton, Lille and Bayern Munich, alongside the Gunners and Thomas Tuchel’s side, are monitoring his situation to facilitate a transfer in the future. However, it is claimed that the Eagles are unlikely to entertain any offers for the 20-year-old, making a potential move very difficult to happen.
The Frenchman has quickly adapted to the top flight in a short period which could be the reason why clubs have continued their pursuit to sign him. However, the South London club’s stance could be a problem as they hold all the cards at this stage, having just signed him last summer.
The Palace prospect has made 20 appearances so far this season and has scored four goals alongside six assists across all competitions. He has certainly been one of the youngsters to have made a name for himself under Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira.
The former Reading starlet had a solid performance against us in the previous fixture despite his team losing through a late winner from Hakim Ziyech. Despite the defeat, the 20-year-old has certainly shown that the interest from these clubs is warranted.
It remains to be seen if Mikel Arteta’s side could get an advantage in the race due to the presence of Vieira. However, since they are unlikely to part ways with one of their talented prospects, that could be ruled out at this moment.
Olise usually plays as a right-sided midfielder at Selhurst Park but has also played down the right-wing and a number ten. A versatile playmaker, he is truly a nightmare for most defenders to deal with when at his best.
Those who have watched the youngster play would know all about his pace off the blocks and quick feet on the ball. While there may not be a place for him in our quality-filled starting XI as of now, Olise could well be one for the future. He certainly has the potential to be a world-beater.
It now remains to be seen where his next destination lies- if he decides to leave Reading in the future- and if the Blues can beat other suitors to his signature.
