Boost for Chelsea as Europan giants drop their interest in 25-year-old Blues star

Bayern Munich set to drop their interest in Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen

According to German outlet Sport1 (h/t Football. London), German giant Bayern Munich are willing to drop their interest in Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen in order and look at alternative targets.

Andreas Christensen has come a long way in the last few years and has transcended from squad player to one of Thomas Tuchel’s linchpins in defence. The academy graduate did an excellent job against Manchester City in last season’s Champions League final after Thiago Silva had to be substituted.

Since then, the 25-year-old has developed into one of the crucial players of the squad. Still yet to hit his prime, he will only get better and his potential in the summer would be a massive blow for the team.

However, with his contract expiring in June, there is little leeway at Chelsea’s end to prevent Christensen from leaving. As of yet, there has been no breakthrough in negotiations regarding a contract extension.

Bayern Munich are about to lose one of their critical central defenders, Niklas Sule, who recently signed a pre-contractual agreement with Borussia Dortmund. It, therefore, comes as no surprise that they are looking for a reliable replacement in the summer transfer window. However, now it is believed that Die Rotten has shifted their interest to Torino’s Gleison Bremer rather than pursuing Christensen.

With that being said, Bremer was also a Chelsea target in the last window. So there could be another clash of interest if our team rekindles their pursuit of the Brazilian.

Andreas Christensen has become a star centre-back at Chelsea.

Christensen has established himself as a top defender in recent years and has taken his performances up a notch under Tuchel. He has formed an excellent partnership with Antonio Rudiger whenever called upon and is a key player in our efforts to dominate English and European football.

With Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta’s contracts also up in the summer, Chelsea have several big decisions to make in the next few months. Their potential defensive rebuild will definitely be made easier should Christensen stay put and commit to the club’s cause.
