Chelsea managed to pull off a hard-fought victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park to ensure that they manage to hold a strong position to finish in the Premier League this season.
The Blues started on the front foot and managed to keep Vicente Guaita busy throughout the game. Whilst the Eagles also had a few good chances to get on the scoresheet themselves, the Chelsea faithful would have resigned to the fact that the West Londoner would only come away with a point Hakim Ziyech came knocking on the door to be our saviour for the day.
The former Ajax Amsterdam player almost opened the scoring in the 75th minute when he slotted the ball in the net but the initial ball played to Romelu Lukaku was judged offside. While the visitors were constantly causing trouble the Blues managed to have the final laugh in the last minute of normal time.
The Morocco international has scored in three consecutive Premier League experiences now and is really starting to step up to the plate in the absence of the usually dependable Mason Mount. On the back of this victory, the London-based club would be looking to carry the same momentum in their upcoming Uefa Champions League fixture against LOSC Lille as well as the EFL Cup final against Liverpool later in the month.
The three points against the Eagles keep them seven points clear of Manchester United who are in fourth position in the PL right now. A top-four finish could be considered as a realistic target for England’s top-flight football league this season and this victory put us in a better position to achieve this feat.
The Blues looked solid and youngster Malang Sarr was given a chance to don the Chelsea jersey on the day. Antonio Rudiger also blasted a long-range effort in the first half which had the Palace keeper at full stretch. The fans would be hoping that the players would keep up this run of performances in what looks like a packed last week of February for us.
